EmSigner is a user-friendly web-based software through which you can electronically sign important documents without the use of paper, pen, or fax. With this software utility, one can sign the documents electronically using a digital signature. It is considered more efficient and quick as compared to executing paper documents. Moreover, documents are relatively secure as a result of encryption.

It is an effective utility tool through which one can send, track and maintain smart documents. It also allows you to archive smart documents. Generally, one can sign GST registration forms digitally using this software. It can also be used in GSTR filing.

Error while using GST emSigner

Sometimes while working through this software, one may find few issues wherein texts like- “Error! Not able to create connection to the server. Kindly restart emsigner” may be displayed. This error could be displayed when you are filing a GSTR or where you are trying to register DSC in the GST portal. DSC refers to Digital Signature Certificate, which identifies genuine user.

Some of the common problems & their solutions are as follows:

• Issue in connecting with emsigner service- Go to emsigner utility and right click. From the drop down menu, select Run as Administrator.
• Failure in establishing connection with the server- Make sure that the chrome and java versions on your system are up to date.
• DSC not working on the GST portal- Check if the emsigner facility is running in your system, if not running, then install it.

The GST error or emSigner error may happen due to various reasons, and one of the basic reasons could be a change in ports.

Sometimes you may face issues while downloading GST emsigner in your system. Without meeting system requirements, you may not be able to run emsigner.

Hence you must have the following requirements:

• Windows 32/64 bit OS;
• Desktop Browsers like Internet Explorer 10+ or the chrome 49+, or Firefox 45+;
• Valid DSC obtained from a DSC provider;
• Java 1.6 JRE 1.6.0_38+, Java 1.7, Java 1.8.
• Any of the ports among 1585, 2568, 2095, 2868 or 4587.

How to download emSigner on your system/Laptop?

The following process needs to be followed:

• Visit the GST portal^[1] and login using the login credentials;
• After logging in, on the GST dashboard, you will find a drop down menu beside your name. Click on that and click on Register/update DSC;
• Then the register DSC page will be displayed. You need to select the option- Click here for instructions on installing emsigner utility. The link will take you to Document Signer Installer page, from where you may download the emsigner file.
• Once the download is finished, open the downloaded file;
• A dialog box will appear. Click on next to continue with the process of installation.
• Click on the install button to begin the process. If you want to change any previous installation setting, then you may do so.
• When the emsigner is installed, you can click on finish button to exit the set up wizard;
• Once the application is installed, a shortcut icon for the emsigner application will be created. Right click on that icon and select Run as Administrator option;
• After that you will be able to see a message stating that the emsigner service has begun.
• Now click on Ok.

You may have to restart your PC, and after restarting emsigner facility will run automatically. If GST emSigner doesn’t start automatically, you may run the tool from the desktop itself by right clicking on it and clicking on the option- “Run as Administrator”.

It is advised here that you can upgrade your internet browser to the latest version for your convenience in order to be up to date with your internet browsers.
