Rubber floor mats industry is a type of small and medium scale business that has good potential for growth that requires moderate investment. Rubber mats in industrial applications are used to cover electrical panels to act as a guard against leakage of current and short-circuits. It is also used in industries where there is oil spillage on floors – the rubber floor mat making is slippery-resistant. They are used at doorsteps, living rooms and bathrooms in our homes to effectively absorb dirt and moisture from shoes and slippers. These mats are also used in automobiles. Rubber floor mat making is of different types – interior mats, wrestling mats, anti-fatigue mats, anti-vibration mats, and anti-static mat.

What is the Market Potential of the Rubber Floor mats making Industry in India?
The rubber floor mats can be manufactured using the natural rubber of the synthetic rubber.
In 2016, the market share of the Indian rubber industry was 8.15%, the fourth largest in the world. As per industry sources, the rubber production of the country was 654,000 tons in 2016-17 and was expected to rise by 15% by the end of the financial year 2017-18 touching almost 750,000 tons. In the same year, the consumption percentage of India was 11%, second in the world. About 20920 million tons of rubber was exported in 2016-17.
In 2016, there were about 30 large scale units in the country, about 300 medium scale units and 5600 small scale units involved in rubber production or rubber-related products.
Of the total rubber produced in the country in 2016, less than 10% was used for manufacturing ‘Other’ products including floor mats.
It is expected that by 2020, about 91% of the total natural rubber will be supplied by Asia-Pacific countries. With rising demands for rubber, the demand for rubber made products will also increase.
