What is MCA portal?

Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) is the government portal which has the list and details regarding the companies that are incorporated in India. It contains details of all types of companies as well as LLPs. One can check the company registration number, date of incorporation, type of company, directors of a company etc. from the MCA site. 

Check the Availability of Company Name on MCA Website

Whenever a company, be it a private, public or one-person, gets incorporated in India with the concerned ROC of the state/union territory, all the related information in respect of company registration in India is updated on the website of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (commonly known as MCA). This is the common platform where the data bank of all companies is maintained.

Hence, any changes in respect to capital, directors, registered office, objects, name, etc. are also filed by the companies with the MCA to reflect the same on its website, which is accessible to all the stakeholders as well as the general public.

The service provided by the MCA is of wide coverage, ranging from incorporation to winding up. If anyone wants to know about the registration status of a company, he/she shall find the same in the “Master Data” head under “MCA Services” section on the website.

Information under Master data

Before you incorporate a Pvt Ltd Company or Limited Liability Partnership, the following information can be gained under the section “Master Data”:

  • View Company/LLP Master Data
  • View Index of Charges

  • View Companies/Directors under prosecution

Check Registration Status

In order to know about the registration status of a company, the first of the above options should be availed, i.e. “View Company/LLP Master Data”. When the selection is clicked, the following window will appear:

The details of the company shall be searched by entering the name of the company and clicking on the search option in a dialog box, which will appear after clicking the search icon.

 After this, a list appears showing all the similar names along with the CIN of the company. Select the company whose information you want. The dialog box will disappear, fill in the name and CIN of the company[1] on the main page where you have started the search. Enter the captcha letters and click on submit.

The entire information regarding the company should appear in the format below:

  • Company Name
  • CIN
  • RoC Code
  • Registration Number
  • Category & Subcategory of Company
  • Class of Company
  • Authorized Capital (Rs)
  • Paid up Capital (Rs)
  • Number of Members (applicable in case of a company without Share Capital)
  • Date of Incorporation
  • Registered Address
  • Email Id
  • Whether Listed or not
  • Date of last AGM
  • Date of the Balance Sheet
  • Company Status (for e-filing)


Therefore, one can get easy access to the details like Company Registration number, capital information, date of incorporation, registered address, etc. about the company.
