Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is a self-governing body which works for the food safety and regulations in India. It is established under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare[1], Government of India. FSSAI also issues Food Licenses to food business operators in India. This should be obtained before commencing a food business in India. In this article, we shall look at the fees for Food license in India.
FSSAI Registration or FSSAI License is a food license that has to be obtained from the FSSAI. It should be obtained by various food business operators, including traders, manufacturers, and food store owners.
FSSAI Registration is 14 digit registration number which is printed on food packages or displayed in the premises. This 14 digit registration number provides data about the producer’s permit or enrolment and the assembling state.
The following are its types:
Those Food business operators who involve in the small scale food business are required to obtain this. Food businesses with an annual turnover below 12 lakh rupees are required to obtain FSSAI Basic Registration.
This license is required for the manufacturers, transporters, retailers, marketers, distributors, etc. It is issued by the concerned state authorities in every state. Food businesses with an annual turnover between 12 lakh rupees to 20 crore rupees are required to obtain FSSAI State License.
Central license is issued by the regional offices of FSSAI that are operating in the nation. The license can be issued or renewed for 1 to 5 year period. Food businesses with an annual turnover of more than 20 crore rupees are required to obtain FSSAI Central License.

In order to obtain food license, the food business in India can visit https://www.fssailicense.org/#procedure and fill in all the required details such as the name of the business, the mobile number, e-mail ID, nature of the business, and PIN code. Once the details are filled in, the applicant is required to pay the fees by clicking on validate and pay. After clicking on this, five tabs shall be displayed with fees mentioned in it and also the validity of the certificate. Click on the desired tab and pay the amount to get the license.
FSSAI License/Registration is essential for any food business operator to do food business in India. Operating without this license can invite penal consequences.
