Udyog Aadhaar is a type of identity card for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. It is only a registration which is used as an identity proof for the business for opening any bank account, GST Registration it shall also be useful at the time of claiming any incentive from the government.

Udyog Aadhaar consists of 12 digits unique ID. It gives legality to the business. Any micro, small or medium enterprises to start any business needs to register itself under Udyog Aadhar.

Earlier Udyog Aadhar was known with the name of Small Scale Industries Certificate (SSI). Now the name has been changed from SSI[1] to Udyog Aadhaar and the whole registration process has been made online.

Udhyog Aadhar is required by only running enterprises a start-up need not get the registration.

To promote the ease of doing business the Ministry of MSME has started the registration process online which is required by micro, small and medium enterprises. All the businesses which are already in existence and are having Small Scale Industry Registration or MSME Registration do not have any compulsion to obtain Udhyog Aadhar but if they desire they can obtain such registration.

What is Udyog Aadhaar Registration Procedure?

The online Udyog Aadhar registration process has been created with an aim to encourage the online filing of Entrepreneurs Memorandum for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The online Udyog Aadhar registration process will simplify the registration process. In the registration form, the MSME will self-certify its existence, bank account, business activity details, employment and ownership details, and other information.

Documents Required for Online Udyog Aadhaar Registration: Aadhaar Number– 12 digit number as mentioned on the Aadhar Card issued to the applicant by the Dept.

  1. Name of Owner– The name of the applicant as mentioned on the Aadhar Card issued by UIDAI.
  2. Social Category – Applicants Caste: General / Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe / Other Backward Castes. The proof of belonging to SC, ST or OBC may be asked by an appropriate authority, if and when required.
  3. Name of Enterprise– Name of the legal entity to conduct business. One applicant can have more than one enterprises doing business and each one can be registered for a separate Udyog Aadhar and with the same Aadhar Number.
  4. Type of Organization– Type of Business Entity or Legal Entity.
    1. Proprietorship
    2. Partnership Firm
    3. Hindu Undivided Family
    4. Private Limited Company
    5. Co-Operative
    6. Public Limited Company
    7. Self Help Group
    8. Others (Limited Liability Partnership)
  5. Postal Address– Address of the business including mobile and email address.
  6. Date of Commencement– The date on which businesses were started.
  7. Previous Registration Details– Details of previous MSME registration, if applicable should be entered here.
  8. Bank Details– Details of the bank account of the company including IFSC Code and Bank Account number.
  9. Major Activity– Major Area of activity of the business – manufacturing or service.
  10. NIC Code– The appropriate NIC Code should be entered from the National Industrial Classification (NIC) handbook. Click here to download NIC Code Handbook.
  11. The person employed– The total number of people employed in the business.
  12. Investment in Plant & Machinery / Equipment– Amount of money invested in terms of machinery and equipment by the business.
  13. DIC– Details of the District Industry Centre nearest to the business, if required
