The Central Board of Indirect Taxes (CBDT) has on 15th September 2023 issued Notification No. 31/2023-Central Excise. In this notification, the CBDT has amended the special additional excise duty on the export of diesel. It has been reduced to INR 5.50 per litre, which was earlier INR 6 per litre. This reduction is expected to impact diesel exports’ cost structure and competitiveness. The amendment has been made by utilising the power conferred under section 5A of the Central Excise Act, 1944, read with section 147 of the Finance Act. 2002 and will come into force on 16th September 2023.
