Some organisations are\nset up by a group of individuals for serving the society, which can be a Non-Governmental\nOrganisations or NGO and Non-Profit Organisations or NPO. Non-Governmental\nOrganization (NGO) and Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) both functions to benefit\nthe society and welfare of humans or improve the world. These institutions or organisations\nare not affiliated with the Government. NGO and NPO are quite similar to each\nother on the <a class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Basis&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;In finance, the &amp;quot;basis&amp;quot; is a term with several applications, including representing the difference between the spot price and the future contract price of an asset, which is vital in investment(...)&lt;\/div&gt;\"  href=\"https:\/\/enterslice.com\/learning\/terms\/basis\/\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>basis<\/a> of their goals and initiatives that is the reason it gets\ndifficult to analyse the difference between both of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An NGO or non-governmental organisation works for the public, social welfare and animal&rsquo;s interest. This organisation is not affiliated with any government. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NPO is a non-profit organization that works for the purpose other than the making of profits, but such organizations are incorporated under the <strong>Companies Act, 2013<\/strong><sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Companies_Act_2013\"><strong>[1]<\/strong><\/a><\/sup>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rules, regulations and purpose of\nestablishing an NGO and NPO are different. In this article, we shall cover the\nbasic difference between an NGO and NPO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is an NGO?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>An NGO is an abbreviation for Non-Government Organisation. <\/li><li>It is an organisation which operates independently from any Government even though it may receive funding from the Government.<\/li><li>NGO is a non-profit making entity that operates at regional, national or international level depending on its connectivity and reach.<\/li><li>It can be incorporated as a trust, company or a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterslice.com\/society-registration\">society<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li><li>These institutions raise their funds from government, businesses, or any foundations or from the general public.<\/li><li>In India there are nearly 3.4 million non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that work in diverse fields ranging from disaster relief to advocacy for marginalized and disadvantaged communities.<\/li><li>Many NGO works for particular issues like supporting human rights, women&rsquo;s right, children&rsquo;s right, environmental or health issues.<\/li><li>Some of the NGO&rsquo;s operating worldwide are International Committee of the Red Cross, Rotary International, International Air Transport Association (IATA), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).<\/li><li><em>NGOs perform various duties like<\/em>:<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"601\" height=\"353\" src=\"https:\/\/enterslice.com\/learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Images.png\" alt=\"Duties of NGO\" class=\"wp-image-29612\" srcset=\"https:\/\/enterslice.com\/learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Images.png 601w, https:\/\/enterslice.com\/learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Images-300x176.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 601px) 100vw, 601px\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is an NPO?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>NPO is an abbreviation for Non-Profit Organisation.<\/li><li>A group of persons or individuals can <strong>form an NPO<\/strong> to promote cultural, religious, social or professional objectives.<\/li><li>The initial funds are raised by the trustees or members of the NPO.<\/li><li>As this organisation is a non-profit making entity, it applies all its surplus funds on the promotion of the objectives of the organisation rather than distributing it among the members of the organization.<\/li><li><em>NPO registration is done under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013.<\/em><\/li><li>These organisations enjoys several privileges like tax exemption and they are not required to use tem &lsquo;Ltd&rsquo; or &lsquo;Pvt Ltd&rsquo; in the end of its name.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>An NPO includes a charitable organisation or membership groups like a sports club, women&rsquo;s club, any social or recreational organisation, some public educational institutions, public hospitals,&nbsp; etc.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>NPO\nfulfils the purposes like Religious, charitable, scientific, public safety,\nliterary, educational, fostering national or international amateur sporting, Preventing\ncruelty to children and animals but on a much smaller scale compared to an NGO.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is the Difference between an NGO and NPO?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The difference between NGO and NPO is explained in detail in the table given below:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>\n  Topics\n  <\/td><td>\n  NGO\n  &nbsp;\n  <\/td><td>\n  NPO\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  Formation\n  <\/td><td>\n  An\n  NGO is formed by ordinary citizens that operate autonomously of government.\n  <\/td><td>\n  An\n  NPO is an organisation which is formed to provide goods and services to\n  people and also operates on the principle that no member will receive share\n  profits or losses by the entity.\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  Registration\n  &nbsp;\n  <\/td><td>\n  Registration\n  of NGOs can be done under various acts and laws in different states: mainly\n  under the Trust Act, Society Registration Act or Non-Profit Private Limited\n  Company.\n  <\/td><td>\n  The\n  Registration of NPO is done as per Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013.\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  Area\n  of Operation\n  <\/td><td>\n  NGO&rsquo;s\n  operate worldwide.It&rsquo;s area of operation is very large.\n  &nbsp;\n  <\/td><td>\n  NPO&rsquo;s\n  area of operation is limited.\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  Purpose\n  &nbsp;\n  <\/td><td>\n  NGO&rsquo;s\n  works for the benefit of society and the economy of the country. If a company is registered under Trust act, 1882, then the Government will also provide land for its operations.<\/li><li>Employees or volunteers can contribute towards the organisation as they will be working for good cause from all their heart instead of focusing on the salary factor. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Once\nyou start operating an NGO, then your efforts for the welfare and change for\nthe society will invite all National and International NGOs to collaborate with\nyour organisation&rsquo;s motive. In some cases, the international companies also\ninvest in NGOs who works to help poor or for the society change.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>NGO and NPO are both similar as well as different. However, they are working towards the greater good of society. In either way, the work they do is critical towards the society and without both types of organisations, many of the causes and efforts we support today would not exist. The only thing to keep in mind while <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterslice.com\/ngo-registration\">registering an NGO<\/a><\/strong> or NPO is the motive of starting the organization.
