It involves the systematic recording, analysis, and reporting of financial(...)&lt;\/div&gt;\"  href=\"https:\/\/enterslice.com\/learning\/terms\/accounting\/\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>accounting<\/a> and recordkeeping procedure becomes quite easy and simplified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under GST, in order to make sure no tax is evaded, taxpayers are required to maintain all the minute records including invoices, bill of supply, debit note, credit note, refund vouchers, payment vouchers etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who is required to maintain records under GST?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The following persons are required to maintain records:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The owner;<\/li><li>Operator of warehouse or godown or other place used for goods storage;<\/li><li>Every transporter.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bookkeeping under GST: What Records are to be maintained?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Chapter VIII of Central Goods and Service Tax Act<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gstcouncil.gov.in\/sites\/default\/files\/Rules-dynamic\/28-06-2019_CGST%20Rules-2017-Part-A-Rules.pdf\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp;has provided provisions relating to bookkeeping under GST and maintenance of the records of an organization under the head &ldquo;Accounts &amp; Records&rdquo;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It states that clear records and accounts of the following are to be maintained:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"674\" height=\"296\" src=\"https:\/\/enterslice.com\/learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image-12.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-39651\" srcset=\"https:\/\/enterslice.com\/learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image-12.png 674w, https:\/\/enterslice.com\/learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image-12-300x132.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 674px) 100vw, 674px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Goods Manufactured<\/li><li>Record of inward supply of goods or services<\/li><li>Record of outward supply of goods or services<\/li><li>Stock of goods<\/li><li>Input tax credit received<\/li><li>The tax liability of the taxpayer and tax already paid by him.<\/li><li>Accounts of any other particular as required by law.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Along with the maintenance of above-mentioned accounts, the taxpayer is also required to maintain records of the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Name and address of suppliers from whom he had acquired goods or services, which are chargeable under GST.<\/li><li>Name and address of persons to whom he had supplied goods or services to, which are chargeable under GST.<\/li><li>Address of the location where goods are stored, this will include the places where goods are stored during transit too. Along with the address, information stock stored should also be maintained.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bookkeeping under GST: Where to Maintain Records?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Records are to be maintained at the place of business mentioned in the certificate of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/enterslice.com\/gst-registration\"><strong>registration of GST<\/strong><\/a>. If more than one place of business is mentioned in the certificate, then such records are to be maintained in all such places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the taxpayer wishes to maintain such records and accounts in electronic form, then he can do that in the prescribed manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Important points to know relating to Record-Keeping<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The following points must be noted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"665\" height=\"380\" src=\"https:\/\/enterslice.com\/learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image-14.png\" alt=\"Important points to know relating to Record-Keeping\" class=\"wp-image-39653\" srcset=\"https:\/\/enterslice.com\/learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image-14.png 665w, https:\/\/enterslice.com\/learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/image-14-300x171.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 665px) 100vw, 665px\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>All registered taxpayers are required to maintain all the records and accounts as stated above.<\/li><li>Along with the specified documents, Commissioner has the power to direct any additional class of taxpayers to maintain any additional documents for any specified purpose.<\/li><li>If Commissioner is of opinion that a given class of taxpayers won&rsquo;t be able to keep records as per the given norms, then he can permit them to maintain such records in a different prescribed form. However, the reasons for such relaxation are to be recorded in writing.<\/li><li>Every transporter of goods or any person involved in the storage of goods either as an owner or operator of any godown or warehouse or any other specified place will be required to maintain records of the consignor, consignee, and details relating to goods, etc.<\/li><li>If any goods are lost, stolen, destroyed written-off or disposed off by way of gifts and free samples, and no proper records relating to them are kept under this section, then the proper officer will determine the tax payable on such goods or services in the same manner as they were supplied in normal course of business.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Audit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Act clearly specified&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/enterslice.com\/learning\/audit-under-gst\/\"><strong>GST audit<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;requirements, it states that every taxpayer whose yearly turnover exceeds Two Crore Rupees is required to get his accounts audited by a chartered accountant or a cost accountant and shall submit a certified copy of reconciliation statement and audited annual accounts each in FORM GSTR-9C.
