Their activities include loans and advances, acquisition of stocks, equities, debt etc., chit funds, and leasing. Examples of these firms include chit funds, pawn shops, cashier&rsquo;s cheque issuers, cheque crashing locations, payday lending, currency exchanges, and microloan providing firms. NBFCs are registered according to the <strong>Companies Act 2013<\/strong><sup><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mca.gov.in\/MinistryV2\/companiesact2013.html\"><strong>[1]<\/strong><\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Importance of NBFC Advantages<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>NBFCs are important especially in a developing country like India where most of its population is from rural areas. In these areas usually commercial banks are not available remotely. This is where NBFCs come into action. These limitations include;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>NBFC cannot accept demand deposit from any source\/means<\/li><li>The depositor does not receive facilities like deposit insurance scheme<\/li><li>They cannot issue cheque drawn on itself<\/li><li>They cannot be a part of payment and settlement system<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterslice.com\/learning\/different-types-of-nbfc\/\">Types of NBFC<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on the type of work they do, NBFCs according to RBI is divided into two categories namely:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Depository <\/li><li>Non depository<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"619\" height=\"394\" src=\"https:\/\/enterslice.com\/learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/image-86.png\" alt=\"Different types of NBFC\" class=\"wp-image-20298\" srcset=\"https:\/\/enterslice.com\/learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/image-86.png 619w, https:\/\/enterslice.com\/learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/image-86-300x191.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 619px) 100vw, 619px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Under these two broad categories there are ten types of NBFCs: <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Asset Finance Company {AFC}:<\/strong> AFCs work in providing financial support to economic activities such as  automobiles, tractors, lathe machines, generator sets, earth moving etc.<\/li><li><strong>Investment Company {IC}:<\/strong> Any company whose primary business generally is acquisition of securities.<\/li><li><strong>Loan Company {LC}:<\/strong> these companies mainly\/primarily provide loans and advances not as assets but for other purposes.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> Above mentioned three categories have been merged by the government and now it is known as NBFC ICC (Investment and credit Company).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Infrastructure Finance Company {IFC}:<\/strong> IFC is a firm which <ul><li>Provides at least 75% of its total asset on infrastructure loans<\/li><li>Has minimum Rs. 300 crore of Net Owned Funds<\/li><li>Has credit rating of minimum of A or equivalent<\/li><li>CRAR of 15%<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Systematically Important Core Investment Company {CIC-ND-SI}:<\/strong> This is a type of NBFC company carrying out acquisition of shares and securities satisfying prescribed conditions given by RBI<\/li><li><strong>Infrastructure Debt Fund {IDF}:<\/strong> They provide funds to the infrastructure sectors<\/li><li><strong>Non Banking Financial Company-Micro Finance Institution {NBFC-MFI}:<\/strong> This is a non deposit taking NBFC which have more than 85% of its assets in the form of micro finances<\/li><li><strong>Non-Banking Financial Company- Factors {NBFC-Factors}:<\/strong> This is an NBFC in the business of factoring<\/li><li><strong>Mortgage Guarantee Company {MGC<\/strong>}: these are companies which;<ul><li>90% of business turnover is mortgage guarantee business or<\/li><li>90% of the total income is from mortgage guarantee business <\/li><li>Also, it&rsquo;s net owned fund is Rs. 100 crore<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Non-Operative Financial Holding Company{NOHFC}<\/strong>: This is a type of NBFC company which is allowed to set up a bank under the RBI guidelines<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Difference between NBFC and Bank<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table aligncenter is-style-stripes\"><table><tbody><tr><td>\n  <strong>NBFC<\/strong>\n  <\/td><td>\n  <strong>Bank<\/strong>\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Cannot   issue demand draft   <\/td><td> Can issue   demand draft   <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Cannot accept demand deposit   <\/td><td> Can accept   demand deposit   <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Do not   form part of payment and settlement system   <\/td><td> Form part   of payment and <br> settlement system   <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Incorporated   under RBI Act   <\/td><td> Incorporated under Companies Act   <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Deposit   insurance policies of Deposit insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation is not   available to depositors   <\/td><td>\n  Deposit\n  insurance policies of Deposit insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation is\n  available to depositors\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>NBFCs do   not have Banking   license    <\/td><td>Banks have   Banking license   <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>NBFCs do   not have running   accounts like Current Account or Savings Account   <\/td><td>\n  Banks have\n  running accounts like Current Account or Savings Account\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>It&rsquo;s major   work is to accept <br>money from general public for lending   <\/td><td>\n  It&rsquo;s major\n  work is to accept deposits and lending\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>They   cannot issue credit card  <\/td><td> They can   issue credit cards   &nbsp;   <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>They cannot   issue debit cards   &nbsp;   <\/td><td>They can   issue debit cards   &nbsp;   <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>It is only   for lending purposes    <\/td><td>It accept   deposits for lending and investment purposes   <\/td><\/tr><tr><td> Provides   financial services   <\/td><td> Provides   financial services   <\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who regulates NBFC?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Reserve\nBank of India regulates the functioning of Non Banking Finance Company under\nthe framework of Reserve Bank of India Act, Chapter III B and its directions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is the procedure of NBFC\nRegistration?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As stated under the Section 45 I of the RBI Act 1934 a company which is already incorporated and has a minimum owned fund of Rs. 2 crore only can register itself as an NBFC. <a href=\"https:\/\/enterslice.com\/nbfc-registration\"><strong>NBFC Registration<\/strong><\/a> steps are the following;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Step 1;<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Incorporation of the company: A company must already be incorporated under the Companies Act 1956 or the Companies Act 2013. The company must be registered as a Private or Public Limited Company<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Step 2; <\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Apply\non COSMOS for online registering: The company needs to apply for the online\nregistration process and also submit the physical copy of the application with\ndocuments to the regional office of the Reserve Bank of India. This needs to be\ndone on the official RBI website <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Step 3;<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Then\nclick on the &lsquo;Click&rsquo; option on the COSMOS login page<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Step 4;<\/strong> <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Downloading the Excel form: Afterward, in the next step the applicant need to download the Excel form given on the screen and re-upload it after filling the same<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Step 5;<\/strong> <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>After\nfilling all the required information the applicant company will get a Company\nApplication Reference Number as a Certificate of Reorganization {CoR}<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Step 6;<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nnext step include submitting of the application along with required documents\nto the regional office<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Step 7;<\/strong> <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nlast step is the issuance of NBFC License: When the RBI Head office checks\neverything and finds everything correct then it issues the NBFC License.
